School Policy 1

HALL PASSES

All students must have a hall pass when leaving a classroom or the lunchroom.

VISITORS

All visitors must report to the office to receive a visitor’s pass before going to any classroom.

CODE OF CONDUCT

The PAS Code of Conduct is intended to define standards of behavior expected by students. Recognizing that all individuals are different, the code allows for individualization of consequences based on each student’s individual needs of motivation.

BEHAVIOR

The instructors and administration at the PAS have adopted the following rules. Additional rules as needed in specific subject areas may be in effect.  All students are expected to obey all school rules, county policies and state laws.

 1.  Students will behave in a manner that will allow the teachers and students to complete daily tasks without disruptions and/or distractions (talking, passing notes, tapping, singing, laughing, walking around, horseplay, etc. will NOT be allowed)

Benefits-All students will have an equal opportunity to receive instruction and to perform at his/her best.

 2.  Students will sit at desks or tables in a manner, which indicated that he/she is alert and participating.  Slumping, putting heads on desks or arms, or positioning himself/herself in any position that indicated that he/she is asleep will NOT be allowed.

Benefits-Students will develop good posture. Students will not be tempted to drift from the task at hand and be able to perform at his/her best.

 3.         Students will respect that everyone learns at a different pace. They will not make fun of other students’ inability to perform the task given by the teacher.

Benefits-All students will feel free to express opinions, try new skills and practice developing skills without the threat of humiliation.

 4.         Students will speak in a manner that is exemplary of respectable young men and women. Profanity and abusive language will NOT be tolerated.

Benefits-Students will develop a vocabulary that will enhance their efforts to become a respectable citizen in their community. Students and faculty will not have to bear the indignities that often accompany profanities.

 5.         Students will respect the teachers and other staff at all times.  Talking back, raising voices, arguing, etc. will NOT be tolerated.

Benefits-Teachers and students will have mutual respect for each other.  By learning to recognize and respect authority figures, students will develop skills needed to successfully perform in the workplace as adults

 

 

 

 

6.  Students will obey teachers and staff at all times.

Benefits-Students best interests will be protected. Students will develop skills that will encourage them to obey laws as adults.

 7.  Students will maintain the safety and cleanliness of the building and grounds by refraining from defacing property (marking on desks, tables, chairs, etc., improperly disposing of chewing gum, not using trash receptacles, etc.)

Benefits-Students will have the opportunity to be educated in a building that is safe and clean. Students will develop habits that will encourage them to respect their property and the property of others in their community.

 8.   Students are expected to go immediately to their assigned seats upon arrival in class.

            Benefits-Students will receive all instructions and will have adequate time to perform each task. Students will develop habits needed in the workplace.

 9.         Students will conduct themselves at all times in a manner that does not encourage fear by those around them.  Fighting, verbally or physically threatening staff or peers, etc. will not be tolerated.

Benefits-Students will have the opportunity to learn in an environment that is free of fear of bodily harm.

Consequences-Threats to instructors and/or students and fighting will result in immediate suspension.

 10.       Students will be in COMPLETE compliance with the dress code when they arrive on school property and will remain in COMPLETE compliance until they are off of school property.

Consequences – Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken by the Director. 

11.       Items such as pens, pencils, notebooks, paper, etc. will be furnished by the school.  Therefore, there is no reason for a student to bring these items.  Book bags, tote bags, backpacks, pocket books, radios, walkman or CD players, beepers, cell phones, lasers, video games, combs, CDs etc. will not be allowed. No electronic devices will be allowed on school property.

Consequences-These will be confiscated and returned only if a parent/guardian comes to school to get them. 

12.  There will be no running in the hallway.

Benefits - Hall traffic will move in an orderly and safe manner.

Consequences - Violators will be dealt with by the Director.
